I am about to Sail the Shortest Itinerary on the World’s Largest Cruise Ship

How do you decide where to go and what to do?

Basically this is a three day cruise to Royal Caribbean’s private island and back, with one day at sea thrown in.

That is fine with me. I am simply enraptured by the sheer size of this vessel and plan on walking around (without getting lost) and taking in the magnitude of it all.

My husband and I have never sailed on a mega ship, let alone one that is brand spanking new.

I think we are embarking on one of the first sailings in North America. Since its maiden journey took place in Europe this summer.

Now I could be wrong. Sometimes there are special voyages to test out the ship early on. But as far as I know, we are among the first to sail through the Bahamas on Legend.

Another first for us is CocoCay, located in the Berry Islands. It seems like everyone else has been there except us!

So, I am debating, do we go ashore knowing that there will be plenty of other opportunities to explore the private island, or do we stay aboard so that we can experience every single eatery? (Really not possible.)

I am thinking we will head out to CocoCay early in the morning after grabbing breakfast in the Coastal Kitchen (a suite-only restaurant.) Spend the morning there before the sun gets too hot and the hung-over people who slept late begin to wander in and crowd up the place.

Then head back to the ship and explore some more. I imagine it takes several days to really get a full view of this gigantic beast of a ship.

Is Legend of the Seas Really Worth all the Hype?

The reviews are mixed on the cruise forums. Some say the price is well worth it. Others say it’s not. Some mentioned the ship never felt crowded and others complain it always felt crowded.

We are not sailing with kids, so the water park aspect of the ship is not something I am looking forward to. I wish they would use that space for a walking track that circles the entire circumference of the ship. 

But no, the track only goes half-way around. Our last cruise was on the Enchanted Princess. The track circled the entire top deck, so the views were phenomenal.

Apparently, on Legend, the space is take up by water slides. That is OK. Maybe we won’t do as much walking this trip and more eating.

That is another dilemma. Out of 40 restaurants, we can’t possibly try every one on a three day cruise.

Probably will skip the main dining room, since past cruisers say it is similar to other Royal Caribbean cruises. One reviewer raved about the Windjammer (buffet) welcome aboard lunch. He said there were so many succulent choices, he couldn’t decide.

While that sounds sumptuous, I already told my husband we would be dining at Coastal Kitchen for lunch on the first day, so that we could explore all the other eateries later on.

You notice how I “told him?” He usually gets more of a say on where we eat. But since I have done all the research, I get first pick. Maybe he can choose on day two.

I really love mocktails, and this ship boasts what looks to be some exciting concoctions. Apparently, if you order them in the “suites only” lounge, there is no up-charge. 

That is where you will find me most evenings…There and wherever they dish out the soft-serve ice cream. They have to have that on board, right? I would assume so.

Unless some gourmet Gelato joint has taken its place. I will let you know.
